Travel refrigeration units
On the roofs of the large number of data centers around Amsterdam are many hundreds of cooling towers. They have to cool all the hard-working servers, which generate so much heat that they could not function without air conditioning.

“Cool little bridge”
“Cool little bridge,” was the comment from Feijenoord’s youth soccer players. The steel bridge – Van Schie’s own design – provides access to one of the Rotterdam soccer club’s practice fields.

Historic restoration in Zaltbommel
The city of Zaltbommel is surrounded by fortifications: a wide, tree-lined belt with wide canals that connect to the river Waal on the north side. One of those moats – the inner moat – was neglected, silted up and dried up for centuries, until there was no longer a moat at all.

‘The Bridge of Sighs’
Across the North Holland Canal are five so-called raft bridges. The youngest of the five, the Rekervlot Bridge, is regularly the child of the bill. It is the numerous technical failures and ship collisions that cause a lot of misery.

There at that mill
The quays along Amsterdam’s canals are in bad shape. There is a lot of overdue maintenance. A total of 200 kilometers (!) of quays, banks and bridges need to be renewed and restored. One of the most appealing locations is the wharf around the oldest sawmill in the world: mill “The Otter.

Bridge from the printer
In Amsterdam, in the heart of the red light district, there has recently been a bridge manufactured in one piece by a 3D printer. It is the world’s first 3D printed bridge made entirely of stainless steel.

Fully certified pontoon
The composition of this pontoon is unique. First, because the formation consists of 9 innovative VSP770 pontoons.

Floating artwork
Scattered throughout the medieval city center this summer, during the Triennial, thirteen objects were displayed by artists and architects. Piece by piece creations in which they search for “what lurks behind the facades of picturesque Bruges.

The construction of the Suurhoff Bridge
The Suurhoff Bridge is the gateway to the Maasvlakte and is an important link between Voorne-Putten and the Botlek, Europoort and Rotterdam. Significantly more and heavier traffic now crosses this bridge than was anticipated in the 1970s. The bridge is in poor condition and in need of restoration.

The salvage of a plane wreck
During World War II, on the night of June 22, 1941, an English bomber crashed in the meadows near Nieuwe Niedorp, NH. The aircraft was shot out of the sky over the Kostverlorenpolder by a German night pilot. The crew included six Czechs, employed by the Royal Airforce (RAF). According to defense specialists, the bodies of the victims should still be on the plane. Every reason to want to salvage this wreck.

Ironclad and linkable
In Bergschenhoek, the High Speed Line (HSL) runs right through the built-up area. This rail line has been there for about 12 years now. Admittedly in a sunken box, but still the residents are stuck with the noise pollution of trains passing at a speed of 160 km/h all this time. There are tall glass sound barriers, but they are not working properly.

Towering
A remarkable landmark has stood in Mijdrecht since 1937: the square water tower on Industrieweg, now renamed “Kompastoren. Because of its unusual shape, it is a national monument, also because the water tank is not round but cubic.
