This pontoon bridge is located on the outer edge of Amsterdam-North in the small river ‘t Twiske. This stream flows through the Kadoelen neighborhood, popularly called Capie’s Oort because of the many retired captains who used to live there.

The pontoon bridge provides a temporary bicycle and pedestrian connection between the two banks, as the fixed bridge – the Marie Thomas Tonnon Bridge – was in poor condition and in need of restoration.

In order to bridge the difference in height to both walkways as safely as possible (also for the disabled), newly developed modular VSK access ramps (gangways) were used. The decks of these elements are slip-resistant. Custom handrails are also available for these valve sections.
