Earth-moving equipment comes in all shapes and sizes: heavy excavators (radio-controlled or not), crawler cranes, midi-cranes, mini-excavators. Each one is a machine designed for excavating and backfilling soil, digging trenches, reshaping an industrial site or laying sewers.

With all such work, there is always the danger – despite all precautions and measurements – of hitting an existing underground cable. There are companies (read: clients) that absolutely do not want to run that risk, such as ICT companies and especially data centers, where there are many vulnerable cables and pipes in the ground. At these companies, therefore, it is strictly forbidden to dig into the ground with machinery.

Van Schie has a machine that does not dig, but sucks the soil away around cables, pipes and tree roots. The device consists of a compact suction box attached to the excavator and hydraulically driven. In this way, using vacuum technology, cables and pipes are safely exposed.
