A remarkable landmark has stood in Mijdrecht since 1937: the square water tower on Industrieweg, now renamed “Kompastoren. Because of its unusual shape, it is a national monument, also because the water tank is not round but cubic.

Incidentally, only two water towers of this type with a steeple-gabled roof exist in all of the Netherlands. The other tower is in Lutten (Overijssel). The 41-meter-high building in Mijdrecht has been vacant since 2005. After endless litigation, it may finally be rebuilt.

It will house small offices and various spaces for entrepreneurial talent. Van Schie was allowed to perform the necessary lifting work. With the 70-ton crane it went off without a hitch, again with a jib.
