Distribution centers of our national supermarket chains have been springing up like mushrooms in recent years. A consequence of ‘just-in-time delivery’, a system in which stores no longer maintain their own stock, but receive the goods from a central point – a so-called DC.

They cannot be missed along the main road: the enormous DCs of, for example, JUMBO, AH or Hoogvliet. It is also no coincidence that they are located on new industrial estates, close to the entrances and exits of motorways. It has been government policy since 2016, based on an idea from the Board of Government Advisors that advises our government on infrastructure and the environment.

That is why these DCs are now often brotherly next to each other, as is the case in the new business park along the A1 near Deventer. ALDI and SLIGRO have already established themselves there. In addition, a huge DC is now being built for the PLUS (which recently merged with Coop) for the distribution of fresh products. The site covers no less than 13 hectares.

Van Schie had to build an 8.5 meter high noise barrier along part of this complex. The screen is 375 meters long and is partly integrated into the building. It was built on behalf of Kokosystems BV.
