Steel bulkheads, ironclad and linkable

In Bergschenhoek, the High Speed Line (HSL) runs right through the built-up area. This rail line has been there for about 12 years now. Admittedly in a sunken box, but still the residents are stuck with the noise pollution of trains passing at a speed of 160 km/h all this time. There are tall glass sound barriers, but they are not working properly.

It’s not just the noise barriers that are not working. Also some of the track is laid on a rock-hard surface; this acts as a sound amplifier. After years of litigation by residents, the problem is finally being recognized and also solved. Some of the existing screens will be demolished and replaced with sound-absorbing material. Screens are also being added.

The entire erection and dismantling of the structure takes place over a length of just under 2 km. The problem, however, is that a railroad ditch runs along the entire route. And then how do you get to the different workplaces with all the equipment and heavy machinery?

Effective

Van Schie has an effective solution for this: steel bulkheads. A system that can be installed quickly and easily. And customized! At the company in Mijdrecht they are in stock, in various lengths (up to 16 meters). Coupled together, they also form a rock-solid bridge. The advantage of steel bulkheads is that a strength calculation can be provided. In other words, a contractor then knows exactly how heavy the bulkheads can be loaded. This is in contrast to wooden partitions (a natural product).

Here in Bergschenhoek, they chose clusters of eight bulkheads, making each bridge 14 meters long and 9.8 meters wide. Across the entire rail ditch are seven of these composite steel bridges. Complete with handrails and ramps.
