With the old scaffold mill “De Windhond” – built in 1755 – located in the center of Woerden is the Burgemeester Vosbrug. Once a real drawbridge, a fixed concrete bridge replaced it in 1992. When that decision was made at the time, it was not pleasant news for the handful of houseboats moored in the Singel. These suddenly found themselves unable to move because the bridge was too low to sail under. The municipality of Woerden then offered to “elevator” the middle section once every five years to allow the arks to pass, for example, to sail out for maintenance elsewhere. Last April 2 was again the day the bridge was allowed to go up. That last happened in 2017, before that in 2011. It took four telescopic cranes to elevator the 200-ton bridge section. For the municipality also an excellent time to subject the bridge to an inspection.

'Powerlifting'
Lift, hold high for a moment, deadlift … and lower again. A clever feat of powerlifting, performed by four telecranes from Van Schie. It happened in Woerden, where the middle section of a heavy concrete bridge had to be briefly lifted to let a couple of houseboats through.
