When Floriade opens its gates in Almere next year, visitors should be able to enjoy the scents and colors of flowers and plants in peace. This is now being worked hard on. In fact, the park in which this world horticultural exhibition takes place is right next to the A6.

Noise pollution from this busy highway will soon be countered by an environmentally friendly noise barrier on top of the earthen embankment already constructed. Here, Van Schie installed a soundproof screen covered with coconut fibers.

The sound barrier is nearly 700 meters long and 3 meters high. The foundation of the screen consists of 183 steel profiles, which go 7 meters into the ground. It’s not just there for the six-month Expo. The entire Floriade site will remain largely intact even after that time. It is being further developed into a green, healthy urban neighborhood where it will soon be pleasant to live.

It will be named Hortus, a small plant city covering 60 acres, with plenty of living space, but also a city that is self-sufficient. And not just in the area of energy, but also when it comes to food supply. Because many of the gardens created for Floriade will also remain, such as the vegetable and herb gardens and the many varieties of fruit trees.
