By land, by sea is back again!

As if it never went away: the television program in which the whole of the Netherlands is laughing when the next contestant goes on the air with great self-confidence. It’s pure schadenfreude. The participants have sometimes spent a year tinkering with a cart that within ten seconds is already in the poop. It is a miracle that it always ends with a hiss.

For forty years Te land, ter zee en in de lucht was shown on Dutch television. It was conceived in 1973 by the TROS. Initially it was called: Vlieg er eens uit. Participants jumped off a high ramp and raced DAFs and caravans around a car circuit. But when more and more water parts were added, Van Schie was called in. For 25 years, the company from Mijdrecht was then allowed to build all the wet venues for the parts tobogganing, fast to the bell, cycle ‘m in it and name them all. Most constructions based on linkable pontoons, including the infamous soap ramp. Unfortunately, the program stopped in 2010, but has lost none of its popularity since then, as evidenced by the many reruns on television. When, at the beginning of this year, there were plans to put new episodes on the air again, this time by RTL, Van Schie was once again called in for all four parts: tub dancing, fast to the bell, push ‘m d’r off and cross the puddle with your axle. The filming took place in the Efteling, on the Vonderplas. No fewer than 27 episodes were recorded in this same amusement park over the years. The first was in 1980: the bathtub race, in which Efteling personnel were also allowed to participate. The last five episodes took place in 1990. After 24 years, the program is – for now – back in its old familiar place in Kaatsheuvel. It undoubtedly tastes like more…
