Distribution centers of our national supermarket chains have been popping up like mushrooms in recent years. A consequence of “just-in-time-delivery,” a system in which the stores no longer maintain their own stock but receive the goods from a central point – a so-called DC.

They can’t be missed along major roads: the huge DC’ s of, say, JUMBO, AH or Hoogvliet. Nor is it a coincidence that they are located precisely on new business parks, close to freeway entrances and exits. It has been government policy since 2016, following an idea from the Board of State Advisors that advises our government on infrastructure and the environment. That is why these DC’ s are now often fraternally adjacent to each other, as is the case at the new business park along the A1 near Deventer. The ALDI and the SLIGRO are already settled there. In addition, a huge DC is now being built for the PLUS (recently merged with Coop) for the distribution of fresh produce. The site covers no less than 13 hectares. Along part of this complex, Van Schie had to build an 8.5-meter-high noise screen. The screen is 375 meters long and is partially integrated into the building. It was built on behalf of Kokosystems BV.
