On the roofs of the large number of data centers around Amsterdam are many hundreds of cooling towers. They have to cool all the hard-working servers, which generate so much heat that they could not function without air conditioning.

The towers occasionally malfunction and must regularly “travel” for maintenance. They are lifted off the roofs, go on transport, are stored, the heat exchanger is disassembled and overhauled somewhere in Italy, comes back and is reassembled.

The complete tower is then transported back to the data center by “exceptional transportation” (usually at night) and returned to the roof. Van Schie has already carried out 153 such transports over time, as well as taking care of the storage of the units.
