EuroParcs, the new owner, is currently working on a major expansion. And that is exactly where the challenge began. The new prefabricated homes could not reach the park via the existing access road. So what now?
Van Schie found the solution.
The only narrow road leading to EuroParcs is completely unsuitable for heavy trucks, let alone mobile cranes and low loaders. One bend follows another, and the transport would also have to cross two fragile drawbridges. But the Netherlands is a country of water for a reason. If it cannot be done by road, then it has to be done by water.
That said, this was not a small operation. A total of 98 bungalows had to be delivered, temporarily stored and then transported across the water. For Van Schie, that was no problem.
The company has heavy-duty modular pontoons that can be used to create a certified floating platform in almost any required size and draught. A small tugboat, operated by a skipper who knows every island and creek in the Kaag area, took care of the rest.
From the Ringvaart, the journey continued via the Ade, the Diepenhoek, the Kever, the Sever and the Spijkerboor, turning left towards the Zweiland. There, a special mooring point had been built to unload the prefabricated homes.
The telescopic crane, with its own weight of 60 tonnes, also had to be transported across the water along the same route.
Of course, an operation like this does not simply happen overnight. It requires extensive inspections and permits in advance. The number of crossings per day was also limited. The homes were supplied by Duntep B.V. in Staphorst. The client was EuroParcs B.V.
Holiday village by the lake
In the past, a holiday home was literally put together with a hammer and nails, with just enough room left for a small kitchen if you were lucky. Today, comfortable prefabricated holiday bungalows arrive in four sections and are assembled and finished on site. They come complete with a luxury kitchen, bathroom and two or three bedrooms.
Van Schie Kraanverhuur has already lifted nearly one hundred of these homes into place at the Spijkerboor holiday park and assisted with the finishing work.
Some homes have an additional floor with a pitched roof and dormer window, while others feature a spacious roof terrace overlooking the lake. They are located in a unique setting, directly on the water, with every form of water sport within easy reach.
